Vintage Hawaii Vibes – Travel Diary Vol. I
What do I Imagine when thinking of Hawaii? I used to think of Pearl Harbor a lot (obviously because of the movie, I was not aware of the Historic Events as you can imagine, they have a lot of other Historic Events to cover and teach you about when growing up in Europe). But either way I was pretty obsessed with the fashion and costume picks in that movie. That was most likely my main focus. So what do you do, when you decide to travel to Hawaii for the first time and want to write a fashion blog about it? Yes, you guessed it right..you plan a Vintage inspired Hawaii shoot. Out of all the research I had done prior to embarking on this Island Journey, I had come across the gorgeous Fashion Blogger & Influencer Chiara Ferragni’s blog page , and read about her Hawaii trip in September. Lifestyle and Travel blogs are definitely a great way to find out more about your destination beforehand. My trip was coming up in October, so it was perfect timing. Read here
I was able to get a good insight and tips on what to do or where to get a nice Acai Bowl (more on these, the North Shore, Waikiki, Local food & Hotels coming soon).
However, I decided to shoot a few different looks and create a photo story through Hawaiian vintage vibes, like I had always dreamed about. I wanted it to be something moody, that takes you to a different time and era without looking like costumes, but more looks anyone can pull off today too, just in a dreamy way. Needless to say, it is also a recurring theme as mentioned in my previous blog about the perfect day in Malibu.
As a stylist and designer, I am never short of props, and almost always prepared. I was so happy to connect with Sky, a local photographer, who quickly became a friend (and whom I learned a lot from, as a local. @visualsbysky ). At first it was a little weird to be in front of the camera, as I am so comfortable behind the scenes, styling, or creative directing. Of course, I do shoot my own looks for my fashion blog, but this was a more intense focus on me that I had to get used to to make it work.
I have so much more to share with you guys about this magical trip. I’ll promise to share a Vlog, and more content on eateries, beaches, activities, and all the fun in the sun you can and probably should have when traveling to the Islands. For now, I hope you like this photo story and get inspired for your own trip next time…especially if you want to be starring in it 😉
Mahalos to everyone we met and the new friends we made in Oahu. The energy, the people, and the sea, all breathtakingly beautiful!
